What about children? Shouldn’t parents get a larger amount, a supplement?

What about children? Shouldn’t parents get a larger amount, a supplement?

Answer

Some proponents favor an extra amount for each child, maybe $200 to $600 a month. An alternative, or in addition, is to help parents through the tax code. Or invest more money in education, or increase funding for children’s healthcare, or provide other services. These are issues to discuss as we move forward.

Basic Income Action supports all variations of basic income, including proposals to supplement the amount for children. Also plans for partial or means-tested programs as steps toward a true basic income.
